The Powerball jackpot starts at $20 million and keeps growing until it's won, often reaching hundreds of millions. Match the five white ball numbers plus the red Powerball to win the top prize. A $2 play gives you a shot at nine prize tiers, including $1 million if you match the five white balls. Want even bigger prizes? For an extra $1, Power Play can multiply non-jackpot wins up to 10X.
Powerball draws take place three nights a week, every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 pm ET. The draw is held at FL Lottery headquarters in Tallahassee. Michigan players will need to buy their tickets before 9:45 PM ET on draw nights to enter that evening's game; ticket sales restart after the drawing.
You can check the MI Powerball Payouts page to see how many Michigan players won a prize in the most recent drawing.
Michigan's biggest lottery winners include many Powerball jackpot multi-millionaires. At the top of the list is Donald Lawson, who scored a $337 million top prize in 2012. He took the cash option and received $158.7 million after taxes.
How to Play
Follow these easy steps to start playing Powerball in MI. Players must be 18 or above to buy tickets and redeem prizes. To find the latest hot and cold numbers, visit Powerball Smartpicks or discover popular and overdue numbers on the Powerball Frequency Chart.
- Select your own five main white ball numbers from 1 to 69 and a Powerball number from 1 to 26. Or keep it simple and go for Easy Pick to have the lottery computer randomly generate your numbers. Another option is "Combo My Numbers" - pick 6 to 10 numbers from 1 to 69 and a Powerball number from 1 to 26. Your ticket will include all combinations of your choices.
- Add the optional Power Play for an extra $1 per play to multiply prizes below the jackpot.
- Add the optional Double Play for $1 more per play and get a second chance to win in a separate draw with prizes up to $10 million.
- Love your numbers? Play them up to 30 times by marking the number of consecutive draws in the multiple draw wagers area of your playslip.
- Visit this page after the draw to see if you're a Michigan Lottery winner. Match all six numbers drawn and you'll take home the jackpot. Jackpot winners can choose to receive the full advertised value as an annuitized prize of 30 payments over 29 years. This represents the value of the prize pool at the time of the draw after being invested. Alternatively, the winner can choose the cash option - the amount in the pool at the time of the win. This is a smaller amount, paid as a single lump sum.
Power Play
Power Play is an option you can add to your Powerball ticket to increase the value of non-jackpot prizes. Power Play costs an additional $1 per play and multiplies the value of any prize except the jackpot by up to 10X if the jackpot is below $150 million, or up to 5X if it's above.
A separate Power Play multiplier number is randomly drawn just before the main Powerball numbers. For example, if the Power Play is 3X, any non-jackpot prize you win triples in value. The only exception is Match 5 - the second prize is normally $1 million, and Power Play doubles its value to $2 million, regardless of which Power Play number is drawn.
Double Play
Michigan is one of only a few jurisdictions to offer the Powerball Double Play add-on. For $1 more per play, Double Play provices a second chance for your numbers to win up to $10 million. Double Play features its own separate draw that takes place following the Powerball draw each every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday night.
Double Play uses your Powerball numbers, so no new picks are required. Your Powerball ticket with Double Play is also eligible to take home prizes in either or both draws! Both Power Play and Double Play can be added to a Powerball ticket, but Power Play does not multiply Double Play prize amounts.
Prizes and Odds
Powerball offers nine total ways to win - match the five white ball numbers plus the red Powerball and you hit the multimillion-dollar jackpot. There are also many great cash prizes to be won on the other prize tiers, including the Match 5 second-tier prize which is worth $1 million. You can even win by matching just the Powerball. All prizes below the jackpot are set cash values.
The table below shows what you could win in the Powerball draw and your chance of taking home a payout on each prize level. The overall odds of winning any Powerball prize are 1 in 24.87.

Double Play Prizes and Odds
The Double Play draw has the same odds of winning as the main Powerball draw. The draws do offer different prizes - Powerball has a rolling jackpot that starts at $20 million, while Double Play has a set top prize of $10 million in cash.
In both draws, five numbers are drawn from the main pool of 1-69 (in Powerball, these numbers are white; in Double Play, they are black), and one red Powerball number is drawn from a pool of 1-26.
To win the Double Play jackpot, your numbers must match the five black balls as well as the Double Play Powerball number.
Double Play features nine ways to take home cash payouts - check out the prizes and odds below:
